#YesYouScan Know your risk of osteoporosis

Thank you for visiting the HealthyWomen #YesYouScan campaign! You knew approximately
10 million Americans have osteoporosisand around one in two women risk breaking a bone from the disease in their lifetime?

Osteoporosis makes your bones brittle. Unfortunately, however, you can’t feel your bones weakening, and there are often no warning signs of osteoporosis. But you can take steps to keep your bones strong and healthy, and you’re never too young to start.

No bones about it – get your DXA scan

A great first step is to get early bone screenings, known as dual energy X-ray absorptiometry, or DXA, scans, to help change the course of this disease. DXA scans are a powerful tool for predicting fractures. And they’re quick, easy, non-invasive, and painless to perform.

There are many things you can do to increase the importance of bone health screenings for all women!

  • Click here to accept our #YesYouScan pledge — Whether you’re busy making an appointment to get your DXA scan or to talk to a loved one about their bone health, you’re helping to raise awareness of the importance of early screening.
  • Contact your congressman — Bone density tests are extremely effective in predicting future fracture risk, yet tests have declined since 2007, when Medicare Part B cuts for scans performed in a doctor’s office took effect. Our friends at the Bone Health and Osteoporosis Foundation have an easy way to connect directly to your congressional representative regarding legislation that would address this issue and increase access and accessibility for DXA scans.

    They were also
reaching to the First Lady, Dr. Jill Biden, and the members of Congress who are leading efforts to give women greater access to DXA scans, to encourage them to participate in our YesYouScan campaign.
